Finding the best non-toxic muffin pan can be a serious challenge. I spent so much time searching and was surprised how limited the choices are. Many muffin pans are made with toxic and just plain outdated non-stick coatings, and unfortunately many of my go-to brands for healthy cookware and bakeware don’t make muffin or cupcake pans. Luckily, I managed to come up with a few good options.
For the best non-toxic muffin pan, the best materials to use are Stainless Steel, Porcelain, and Silicone. These materials do not leach harmful chemicals like non-stick coatings do, even the ones that claim to be “green.” They also are very easy to maintain and take care of.

Trudeau Structured Silicone Muffin Pan
This structured silicone muffin pan is the best choice, because silicone is a very safe, non-toxic material, and the steel frame inside gives it structure for easy handling and doesn’t warp. Silicone is a material that is much closer to rubber than plastic, and it is non-reactive and heat safe at very high temperatures. That being said, I would avoid cheaper silicone from unknown brands as they could be made with cheaper filler materials like plastics, not pure silicone. Trudeau is a trusted brand for silicone products.
This muffin pan is non stick and clean-up could not be easier. It’s dishwasher, oven and freezer safe, and comes in many colors. They even make jumbo and mini-muffin trays.
Fox Run Stainless Steel
The Fox Run Stainless Steel pan is my top choice for the best stainless steel non-toxic muffin pan. The stainless steel is safe and non-porous, and it’s even nickel free since it is 18/0 stainless steel. Nickel can be a potential allergen for some, and nickel is known to leach with acidic foods. It’s slightly more expensive than conventional toxic non-stick coated muffin pans, but still is very reasonable. I also like how the pan has 12 wells in one tray, instead of having to buy two 6 cup trays. I get tons of great use out of this pan and never have any complaints. It’s very light-weight, easy to clean and is dishwasher safe. With a little greasing (or paper muffin cups) nothing sticks.
Sweese Porcelain
Next up, these Sweese porcelain muffin pans are another good option for the best non-toxic muffin pan. They are a bit pricier and you’d have to buy two to get 12 cups, but they look great and are a safe material. They are lead-free, and are naturally non-stick with a little bit of greasing. These are a very safe and attractive choice. The only negative aspect is that you might want to be careful cleaning and storing them as porcelain could chip or break.
Silpat
Finally, I’m going to put the Silpat silicone muffin tray on this list, though it isn’t structured like the Trudeau one. This is a great lightweight and easy to use tray. Nothing sticks, and clean-up is a breeze. The Silpat brand has a longstanding, good reputation and it is made in France. Again, I would avoid cheaper silicone from unknown brands as they could be made with cheaper filler materials, not pure silicone.
All of these muffin or cupcake trays are surely better than the typical toxic non-stick coated muffin tray. It’s nice to be able to make baked egg bites, or crispy cornbread muffins without paper liners and feel confident you are not exposing yourself to harmful chemicals.
